How to Get Involved in OttoTHON

Hi! I’m Emily McNeill and I’m the External Communications Director of OttoTHON 2022. I first joined OttoTHON my freshmen year as a member of the marketing committee. I really wanted to give back to the local community, make new friends, and see what dance marathon was all about. Now, OttoTHON is one of the most special aspects of my time at college, and I hope it can be for you too!

Luckily, there are many different ways you can get involved in OttoTHON and experience the magic of our main event.

Dancer

The first, and easiest, way to become involved in OttoTHON is to become a dancer! You can sign up to be a dancer at any time by registering for the event. Dancers help us fundraise and can attend various activities throughout the year. Then, on the day of our dance marathon, all of our dancers attend to help us fundraise and make miracles!

Committee Member

Being a committee member is a great way to increase your involvement in OttoTHON, especially if you have a particular skill you’d like to contribute to a team! Committee members attend full team meetings throughout the year, help their executive board chair with various tasks, and may have additional responsibilities on the day of the event. If you want to learn more about what it takes to run a dance marathon, joining a committee is a great first step.

Executive Board

If you want to dedicate more time to OttoTHON and help our dance marathon grow, an executive board position is the way to go. Currently, we have 16 amazing members on our executive board who work together to help fundraise, recruit, market, and plan OttoTHON. E-board members oversee committees and meet with steering weekly to coordinate all things OttoTHON. OttoTHON’s E-board is a tight knit community, and we’re all extremely passionate about making OttoTHON the best it can be.

Steering

Steering is made of five people that oversee OttoTHON and their respective E-board teams. There are five steering positions: Executive Director, External Communications Director, Membership Director, Finance Director, and Internal Events Director. The Executive Director represents OttoTHON, and oversees steering and E-board. The External Communications and Membership Directors help organize external communications and recruitment, while the Finance Director and Internal Events Director manage the internal operations of OttoTHON - including event logistics and finances. Steering is an extremely special way to contribute to OttoTHON, and perfect for E-board members who want to dedicate more of their time and ideas to OttoTHON.

OttoTHON Leadership Program (OLP)

Our final category of involvement is our OttoTHON Leadership Program! Only first-year students are eligible to apply in the fall semester, but it is an incredible introductory experience to OttoTHON that aims to inspire first-years to join leadership positions in OttoTHON in the future.
